Sara Ostermeier started her musical career playing piano at a young age then transitioned to percussion in the fifth grade. She started playing in school all the way through to high school. In high school she participated in band, orchestra, percussion ensemble, choir, and in her county's All-Honors Band for three years. She has also loved playing in her school's theater productions of The Addams Family and Beauty and the Beast. In her final two years of high school she was honored the opportunity to play alongside the Baltimore Symphony in their Side-by-Side program with the county school system. She also participated in the Peabody Preparatory, performing with the Peabody Preparatory Percussion Group, Peabody Preparatory Wind Orchestra, and the Peabody Youth Orchestra. In past summers Sara has attended festivals such as the Interlochen Arts Camp, the Summer Music Horizons festival at Eastman School of Music and the Oberlin Percussion Institute.
At the end of her high school career in 2019, Sara auditioned for music schools across the Eastern seaboard and accepted an admittance from Ithaca College with a merit-based scholarship. She is currently studying under Dr. Mike Truesdell to complete a Bachelor's of Arts in Music. Sara has performed in the IC Percussion Ensemble and Steel Band as well as subbing in for IC Brass Choir, IC Trombone Troupe and IC Wind Symphony.
Sara is additionally completing a Bachelors of Arts in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies and a Minor in Mathematics. Interdisciplinary work is very important to her and she loves expanding her scholarship to other fields. When she's not busy practicing, performing, or learning, she enjoys working with IC STRIKE, a club on campus dedicated to education and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault, or playing with cats at the local cat cafe.
